Summary: Are your natural skincare products not lasting as long as they use to? Odds are your better half is sneaking some of your soothing skin creams on the side. Remember, good feels good to him, too! Maybe it’s time to invest in a natural skin care line made just for him.
Have you noticed your spouse or significant other eyeing your luxurious natural skin care products? A bar of soap for hair, body and maybe even as shaving cream is now a thing of the past. Younger men, especially, are now heading to spas for chemical peels and facials….and believe it or not ladies – you may use his razor but you can bet he may be stealing a squirt of your lotion every now and then.
So what should a man's skincare regime consist of? Frankly, his skin care routine is not that different from ours - facial cleansing twice daily, followed by a toner and then moisturizer is a great place to start. Why not throw in a weekly facial mask for him as well? The sun does not discriminate by gender and, like women, sun exposure for men can cause premature aging as well as damage to the epidermis. What’s more, hair follicles on men’s faces absorb more UV rays so a daily moisturizer is a must and make sure it includes a sunblock, too.
Once a man decides that he's going to spend some time and money on his skin care, the next hurdle is choosing which products to buy. Wander into your local department store, and you will see an ever-growing selection of men’s skincare products. But beware – just like our products, ladies, chemicals are lurking in their products, as well, and in the end could be problematic for your sweetie’s skin. Many of these manly skincare products are chockfull of chemicals that are hardly healthy for the skin over the long run. But keep on looking because many natural products manufacturers are rolling out items just for him--minus the toxic stuff.
Obviously, an important consideration for men’s skin care and hair care products is coming up with fragrances that appeal to men and also to the women who love them. Many natural products contain a spicy scent derived from essential oils and botanicals. Moreover, formulations are different too. A body scrub for men can contain more exfoliants because more abrasion can be handled by their thicker skin.
Anti-aging ingredients found in women’s skin care products should also be included for the guys. Look for natural products such as fatty acids and light-bodied antioxidants. Men tend to have oilier complexions and most stay away from products that they can “feel” on their skin because they are too heavy.
Avoid stripping skin with those harsh synthetic deodorant bar soaps. Essential oil soaps may be the answer for much healthier skin. Olive and coconut oil can help dry skin. A natural purifying oil like tea tree can help combat oily skin and provide extra antibacterial protection. You can also fight bacteria with lavender and sandalwood. which also just happen to smell terrific, too!
And throw away the soap for his shaving, too; choose a cream instead. Plant oils are a good choice for shaving cream and won’t block his pores. Stinging alcohol-based products such as aftershave will never be missed if you replace it with a soothing aloe-based gel.
So next time when you suspect your better half is sneaking some of your cleanser or skin cream, go shopping…for him. And to make it extra special, look for a soothing, natural skincare line made especially for him.
